Research & Design in Action

Many clients know their digital products need an upgrade, but don't know where to start. Through user testing, competitor research, and a knowledge of user-centered design principles, I've helped a variety of organizations achieve significant improvements in engagement and conversions.

White Label

Original Layout

The Research

This white labeled client created event sign-up pages for churches. New visitors would read about the event and click a button to be taken to a registration form; collecting contact information and the number of attendees.

Extensive user testing and analysis of behavioral data revealed several key patterns:

  • Users’ attention was not being captured quickly enough by the header image alone, with many users not even bothering to scroll beyond the fold.

  • Users were confused by the icons. Rather than seeing them as the quick visual highlights of event activities they were intended to be, many folks thought they were clickable links, leading to frustration behaviors and rage clicks when the icons didn’t function as expected.

  • Many users didn’t bother to scroll far enough to read the most crucial information: the location and date of the event.

New Design

62.7% Increase in Conversions

The updated design trims away unnecessary distractions, focusing all attention on the event details and sign-up form. The simple layout makes customization for different churches easy, and the transition from desktop to mobile seamless.

  • We monitored the design for a 5 month period and found a 62.7% increase in conversions (completed sign-ups) compared to an equal number of landing pages in the old design.

Pastoral Solutions Institute

Before

The Pastoral Solutions Institute hadn't yet created a full-fledged website, so a mockup was created from scratch to bring them a warm yet professional site that was simple to navigate. The final site can be viewed here.
